Aaron Michaelson
Director of TWHS Orchestras

Mr. Michaelson is an alumnus of TWHS and holds degrees in Music Education and Social Studies Education from Texas Tech University.  He was a member of the TWHS Orchestras playing the double bass.   Under Mr. Michaelson's baton, TWHS Orchestra has grown from 35 students in 2011 to 226 students in 2019.

Christian POnce
​Assistant Director of TWHS Orchestras

Mr. Ponce is a passionate violist that enjoys taking on new and difficult challenges and experiences in his musical career. He graduated in 2020 from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) after receiving tutelage from Dr. Nina Bledsoe-Knight and Dr. Jacob Sustaita. Mr. Ponce also performed with the Sam Houston State University Symphony where he served as assistant principal during the premier of the 1868 “Linz Version” of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 1. Mr. Ponce was also involved in teaching the Huntsville Youth Orchestra during his undergraduate years. He has also served as music director for St. Pius V Catholic Church and St. Matthews the Evangelist Church.

Mr. Ponce started his teaching career in Katy ISD working as an assistant at Tays Junior High. He is looking forward to joining the Highlander Orchestra and work alongside Mr. Michaelson to continue their legacy of excellence and superb musicianship.

In his free time Mr. Ponce is studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and enjoys grilling and barbequing on the weekends. He currently also serves as a pianist/singer for various churches across the Houston area.
